That means you'll be able to dive into particularly long play sessions, Switch battery allowing, without feeling the strain. We loved the crunchy growls of Doom's soundtrack and gun noises, but the Barracuda X could also handle the twinkling melodies and intricacies of Super Mario Galaxy just as well.Īt just 250g, these are some of the lightest cups on the market right now - beating the Logitech G733 which is often touted as one of the most comfortable options. That sound signature is identical to the previous year's model, but we were celebrating that one back in the day as well. The audio even straight out of the box is impressive - with robust, well rounded soundtracks, effects, and dialogue the quality of which is rare to find at a sub-$100 / £100 price point. That means you can quickly customize EQ settings and personalize the experience in a number of ways.Ī low price, impressive sound signature, wide compatibility, and excellent battery life make this plug-and-play device all the more compelling. The Razer Barracuda X storms in with an excellent $99.99 price point, without sacrificing any features a Nintendo Switch player would be looking for. There’s no pressure of course, but every penny helps to keep this site running, as I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages). You can purchase the Oivo VR Headset at this link. With more content available, this would be a near enough essential purchase for the Switch. That’s not the fault of the headset itself though – or Oivo. It’s certainly a vastly cheaper investment than, say, PSVR – or even standalone headsets such as Meta Quest – but is definitely a lot more limited than those examples too. So it works well for what it is – and it’s a decent price considering its build quality, but whether or not you personally think it’s worth a purchase hinges on how many of the VR-enabled games you either already own or intend to get. That said, YouTube VR content works fine and – with the headset being reasonably priced at around £25 – if this is something that appeals, it’s certainly an inexpensive way to watch VR videos. The only thing that lets it down is something that’s out of Oivo’s control, in that there’s a real lack of VR-specific games on Switch those that are available – such as the modes offered in Super Mario Odyssey, Smash Bros and Breath of the Wild – work well, but if you don’t have all three of these games you may find little else to justify the cost. I was asked to check out Oivo’s Switch VR Headset (disclaimer: they provided me with a unit to review) and I’m pleased to say that it’s a robust and comfortable alternative to Nintendo’s cardboard Labo headset, with the added advantage of the user not being required to hold it in place.
